Keke Palmer and SZA together on the silver screen was not on our 2024 bingo card, but we’re certainly not complaining.

On Friday it was announced that the Nope star and the “Kill Bill” singer-songwriter would be collaborating once again, but this time in a movie. The two be featured in what’s being called a “buddy comedy” that will be written by Syreeta Singleton and directed by Lawrence Lamont. The upcoming film also have Issa Rae as producer of the project, bringing the Rap Sh!t trio of Lamont, Singleton, and Rae together again.

While not much is known about the untitled project, we can expect audiences running to theaters Rae, Palmer, and SZA’s star power alone.

Since creating and starring in Max series, Insecure, Rae has only seen herself turn into a media mogul. The multi-hyphenate has developed more shows for Max, including Rap Sh!t and Sweet Life: Los Angeles. She also served as the executive producer for and starred in the films The Photograph and Lovebirds, and was most recently featured in 2023’s Barbie, American Fiction, and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, all of which were nominated for Oscars at the 96th Academy Awards.

Now, Rae will join forces with Palmer and SZA who have had equally stellar achievements over the past few years. Palmer made waves with her star-turning role in Jordan’s Peele’s sci-fi horror Nope, appeared in Netflix’s Human Resources and Pixar’s Lightyear, won her second Primetime Emmy for hosting Password with Jimmy Fallon, and gagged the world with her pregnancy reveal while hosting Saturday Night Live. SZA (who was the music act to Palmer’s SNL hosting duties) dominated the music charts with her album SOS, earning her several accolades, including three Grammys and the title of longest-running number-one woman album of the decade.

Rae and Palmer are no strangers to the silver screen, but SZA will be making her feature film debut. It’s not like she hasn’t had practice from the cinematic masterpieces she creates called music videos or from her time creating “Big Boy” with Palmer for SNL. Not to mention, she’s worked with actors such as Lakeith Stanfield, Donald Glover, Drew Barrymore, Vivica A. Fox, and Young Mazino to create some of her visuals.

Now, she’ll put her acting chops to the test with this new film and fans are ecstatic to see her, Rae, and Palmer working together.

We don’t have a release date for the untitled project, but consider us seated when it comes out.
