Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande react to their Golden Globe nominations

Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande in 'Wicked'

Golden Globe nominees have been reacting to the news of their nominations. This includes Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, who are both up for acting awards for Wicked.

Erivo is nominated in the category ‘Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy’.

Erivo told the Associated Press: “This feels really surreal and wild, and I think it’s particularly special because it’s for a musical … it feels like a really beautiful full-circle moment to be celebrated for this and it’s a bit of a dream come true because there was definitely a time but I didn’t think that would ever happen … I don’t know how often you get to do a big musical onscreen. Some people who don’t go to musicals full stop are going to see this, it’s just been the most incredible thing to see happen, and my eyes are wide open every day and my brain is blown away by the connection that it’s making with people.”

Grande said on an Instagram story, “Oh my goodness oh my goodness… i am floored and honored to be recognized by members of the @goldenglobes . crying (of course)… It’s impossible to find my words, but I am simply, so deeply grateful for this acknowledgement. and congratulations to my brilliant, dear sister @cynthiaerivo, and all of our Ozian family on this celebration of our work. i can’t possibly express my gratitution.”

‘Emilia Perez’

Karla Sofía Gascón, of Emilia Perez, made history by becoming the first trans actress nominated for a lead actress in a movie award at the Globes (‘Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy’).

She posted to social media, “It has been an overwhelming morning. I had tears in my eyes when I heard the news. I want to thank everyone at the Golden Globes for this nomination, it is amazing to be recognized.

“I am very grateful to [director] Jacques [Audiard] for the gift of Emilia. We could not have created the world of EMILIA PEREZ without the film’s incredible artistic and technical crew. Thank you to my castmates for giving the best of yourselves. Thanks to Netflix and to all of you who support me and live my successes as if they were your own.

“This nomination gives me hope for humanity.”

Selena Gomez earned two nominations: For her roles in Emilia Perez and Only Murders In The Building. Here she is reacting to one of those nominations via a video she posted to her Instagram stories.

And here’s Emilia Perez’s Zoe Saldaña reacting to her nomination for ‘Best Supporting Female Actor in a Movie – Musical or Comedy’.

Colman Domingo shared the news of his nomination, as a lead actor in Sing Sing, on his social media.

He said, “Sing Sing is a work of grace. A work of love. Amplifying so many stories of men behind bars who are doing profound work. Holding on to Art. Holding on to Hope. Holding on to their humanity. January 17th back in theaters around the country. A tremendous blessing to us all.”
