Dream Come True

Nicole Kidman is looking to link up with a drag queen for “dream” project

Nicole Kidman’s next co-star might be a drag queen and the project that they’d work on together might shock you.

The Oscar winner is Elle Magazine‘s March cover star and she dished on her role in Prime Video’s Expats, her love for working with women, and how her daughter is (partially) responsible for Big Little Lies getting a season three. The Australian-American actress is one of the best and brightest in her generation, and she has the resume and accolades to prove it. Now, her next project would not only be a dream come true for Kidman, but for one for a lucky drag artist as well.

In the interview, Kidman chatted about her infamous AMC ad. For reference, check out the viral commercial below.

Kidman filmed the commercial in 2021, as an effort to draw audiences back into theaters after the pandemic forced the world inside. The AMC ad gave birth to several memes, inspired drag artists to incorporate the ad into their performances, and solidified the line “heartbreak feels good in a place like this” within the queer lexicon. Essentially, Kidman reinforced her gay icon status in a, well, iconic way.

“It was just the desire to keep cinemas alive,” Kidman said. “I’ve had the best experiences in cinema. I’d pretend I was going to school; I’d forge a note, and I’d go and sit in a movie theater. That’s a safe haven for me, so the idea of those not existing—that’s just not part of the equation in my lifetime.”

Thankfully, Kidman loved the experience (and the fervor around the ad) so much, that she wants to recreate it with a drag queen.

“My dream will be to be onstage doing it with a drag queen,” Kidman said. “I’ve got to be able to do that at some point.”

A pretty achievable goal, if we say so and we’re not sure which drag queen wouldn’t be dying to recreate the ad with Kidman by their side. Also, Kidman is well aware of her “memefication” across social media, Saturday Night Live, and was even cool with being the butt of one of Jimmy Kimmel’s 2023 Oscars jokes, in regards to the ad. In fact, she welcomes the attention.

“If that’s what it takes, I’ll do whatever it takes,” Kidman added. “We have to have some more ideas for the next one.”

Is anyone contacting RuPaul? Seems like we have a Drag Race “Maxi Challenge” that won’t wait.
