Topping the Charts

Are SZA, Doja Cat, and Taylor Swift tops?

Autumn has given us so many things. Aside from PSLs, cute pics with the sunset-colored foliage, and spooky season, this fall is the rise of women on the Billboard charts.

That’s right, in case you haven’t heard women are taking over the music industry and we couldn’t be happier. The stars (and music sales) have aligned creating another historic moment within the music.

For the second time ever, the Billboard Hot 100 music chart’s top 10 spots have been taken over by women artists. And who are these women taking over music?

SZA, Doja Cat, and Taylor Swift. According to this week’s Billboard Hot 100, the three artist’s have work from their latest albums (SOS, Scarlet, and 1989 (Taylor’s Version) respectively) dominating the chart.

Doja Cat, who’s fresh into her Scarlet Tour with fellow rappers Doechii and Ice Spice, took over the number four spot with her number one hit single “Paint the Town Red.”

SZA, who has all of fans waiting impatiently for her deluxe version of SOS, claimed the number eight spot with her song “Snooze.”

That leaves every other remaining spot in the top ten for Taylor (with her new song “Is It Over Now” debuting at the top spot), thanks to the rerecording of her album 1989 (Taylor’s Version) and the resurgence of her Lover track “Cruel Summer.” Interestingly enough, the first time the top ten was dominated by women it was done by Taylor.

Her 2022 album Midnights made her the first artist to claim the top ten spots on the Billboard Hot 100, led by number one single “Anti-Hero.” Now Taylor, SZA, and Doja are making history after making music for girls and gays and their fans are loving this moment.

Now, it’s time to take over the remaining 90 spots on the Billboard Hot 100.
