After a three-year hiatus, Halsey returns with new music.
Halsey is plotting a return to music and fans can’t wait for their brand of confessional, alt-pop to hit their headphones. After releasing four albums, Badlands, Hopeless Fountain Kingdom, Manic, and If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power, the New Jersey native is releasing music under their new contract with Columbia Records. And their latest marketing tactic for their new era is a true love letter to fans.
Fans are sharing photos of letters from the “Graveyard” singer where they revealed updates on their new music.
Entertainment with an edge
Whether you’re into indie comics, groundbreaking music, or queer cinema, we’re here to keep you in the loop twice a week.
“As you may have guessed, I have written a new album,” Halsey writes. “But I needed some time to figure out how to say what I needed to say. You see, I’ve been holding [redacted] and I need to let it out.”
Interestingly, there are two parts in the letter that are redacted from it. Our money is on it being the album title behind those marked out parts.
“There’s so much I’m going to reveal on this record, but you need to know some of the story first,” Halsey continues. “So before the chaos and confetti of big singles and album releases I just need to tell you, my friend, why it all matters this time. I’m releasing a new song on June 4. It’s just for us. Let’s start at THE END.”
Wee don’t know much about what the album entails, aside from its lead single being “The End” as Halsey shared in another announcement on Monday. However, we can assume that this next album is another narrative one, similar to their previous work. Time will tell what will come out on June 4, but this isn’t the only cryptic thing she shared.
Halsey previously shared a website called formylastrick.com. The site features an envelope with a pinup holding an axe on it, which, when clicked on, leads to a page with several images in sticker format. The page has stickers on it that say “southern belle,” “master mystifier,” and “peril is my pay.”
However, some of these images reveal other components to the site when clicked on. The image of a woman receiving an x-ray produces a buzzing noise, the “I have something to tell you” sticker leads to an email subscription, a ticket that says “THE END” reveals the letter Halsey sent to fans, and a CD that says “LESSTIME HITS AND GROOVES” opens a Spotify playlist titled “?” from queer icons like Tracy Chapman, Stevie Nicks, and Elton John. So, what does this all mean?
Fans are steady trying to figure it out, but maybe there’s a connection to other cryptic social media posts Halsey shared In September 2023, they shared an Instagram post captioned “not pictured: me splitting myself in two everyday so that I can give you my deepest wounds (and a handful of perfect joys) for the 5th time in 10 years.” They then shared another album update in February with the caption “When you tried to write your album from a healed POV and suddenly the voices start saying ‘talk ur sh*t.'”
2024 is setting up to be a great year for Halsey. In addition to a new album, they’ll also star in Ti West’s upcoming slasher film MaXXXine, alongside scream queen Mia Goth. But before that happens on July 5, there’s new music to release.
Halsey’s new single “The End” launches on June 4.
