Queer alternative indie band SIr Chloe had recently over the past couple of weeks released their first single of the year, Forgiving—second if you count Did You Love Somebody? by Peach Pit, but I digress.

The song itself has a soothing, almost melancholy vibe while also adding a bit of whimsy, with backing vocals reminiscent of kazoo sounds. The lyrics describe a friendship or relationship in which someone appears friendly and thoughtful on the surface but in the background is actively betraying their friend/partners through certain actions. The other friends aren’t oblivious to these signs, but they choose to stay in denial rather than face the pain of loss.
Earlier in September, the band’s official Instagram account posted what appears to be a close-up, unflattering yet well-composed crying selfie of Dana Foote with the caption “next album is gonna slap.”
It could be speculated that what we were shown was a snippet of that album to set the mood and theme for what is to come.
