Paws up for Mother Monster –– and this new Lady Gaga cover from rising bisexual pop star Slayyyter.
The 27-year-old singer-songwriter (who recently released her sophomore album Starf*cker) put her own spin on “Monster,” a fan-favorite from Gaga’s 2009 album The Fame Monster for Spotify Singles. (Sorry Apple Music, stans!)
“Monster” is a spooky and synthy cut about a boy with zombie-like tastes, which makes Slayyyter’s faithful cover the perfect addition to your Halloween playlists.
It’s no secret that the Missouri-born singer-songwriter is a massive Gaga fan herself. “Growing up, I didn’t have like a lot of friends in middle school,” she said in an interview earlier this year. “I was kind of weird, and what kept me going through it and what kept me happy and in my own little world was things like discovering like The Fame by Lady Gaga for the first time or getting into MySpace music and hearing ‘Space Cowboy’ and all this stuff.”
The “I Love Hollywood!” singer has spoken at length about her love for queer club music. And as a member of the LGBTQ+ community, she understands the importance pop bops (like “Monster”) can have on a person.
“It’s funny because I think to the outside world, people think [pop music is] like silly,” she explained. “But I feel like it has so much impact. It’s not a joke to say that there are certain Lady Gaga songs that saved my life.”

Lady Gaga’s 10 Best Singles of All Time
Let’s keep the party going – no, not by going back to the third-floor toilet – but by ranking Gaga’s best singles.
As far as Slayyyter’s cover goes, she honors Lady Gaga’s original sound with an extra touch of spooky, including some light Halloween-inspired sound effects in the intro.
“I was thinking about different Halloween songs I could cover and this one popped into my head,” she explained in a press release. “It’s one of my favorite pop songs of all time, and nothing will beat the original but I wanted to give it a bit of a Halloween twist for the Spotify single.”
The cover is already resonating with fans of both Gaga and Slayyyter. Considering the “Miss Belladonna” singer is gearing up for her Club Valentine tour (which kicks off in Boston on October 25), our fingers are crossed that this isn’t the last we’ll be hearing of “Monster.”
