Actress Tommy Dorfman has dropped hints that she’s split from her wife, Elise.

Dorfman, 32, and Elise married in late 2023 in a small, private ceremony in Los Angeles. They later posed for some official wedding photos in New York for Vogue magazine, saying they did so so they’d have some images to share with family and friends.

However, on Sunday, Dorfman, who is trans, posted a photo dump to Instagram. The images were taken from across 2024.

Dorfman wrote a list of captions to go with each photo. The first one showed her in a bathtub. The caption read, “1: heartbreak feels good in a place like this (i wrote this entirely original line).”

Another photo showed her dog. The caption read, “fiona loves her new home and, while it’s just the two of us now, i think she’s managing better than i.”

Another caption praised a friend, the actress Annabelle Dexter-Jones. Dorfman credited her for keeping “me breathing and emotionally sober after one of the hardest weeks of my life.” Dorfman offered no more details.

Dorfman has offered no further comment on the status of her marriage.

Romantic history

Dorfman found fame on the TV show 13 Reasons Why. She previously married Peter Zurkuhlen in 2016. In 2017, Dorfman came out as non-binary. In July 2021, she said she identified as a trans woman. She also revealed she and Zurkulen had amicably divorced.

Speaking to Vogue earlier this year, Dorfman says that after her divorce in 2021, she was in no hurry to jump into another long-term relationship. She downloaded Hinge intending to explore her womanhood and dating. However, she was immediately taken by Elise’s profile and swiped right.

The two matched.

“The first few months of our relationship set the tone for how we would eventually get married. We got engaged two months into dating,” says Dorfman.

Despite apparent heartbreak, Dorfman has remained busy professionally in recent months. She plays two roles in director Sam Gold’s modern reworking of Romeo + Juliet on Broadway. Kit Connor (who features in Dorfman’s photo dump) plays Romeo, and Rachel Zegler is Juliet. Dorfman plays two roles: the nurse and Tybalt. The show is running for a limited period only and will close Sunday, February 16, 2025.
