Fans think Severance is setting up a gay love triangle

After a painful three-year hiatus, Severance is finally back on screens — and the Season 2 premiere has fans buzzing with new theories.

That goes for all of the show’s characters: What really happened since the macrodata refinement team’s dramatic breakout in the Season 1 finale? Is Helly R still herself, or has she been replaced by her evil outie? And of course, the question on everyone’s lips: Are Dylan and Irving shaping up to be more than friends?

In Season 1, Irving (John Turturro) fell for Burt (Christopher Walken), a plotline that shaped up to be one of 2022’s best queer love stories. Now, though, it’s unclear if Burt will ever come back to the severed floor of Lumon. Instead, fans are wondering if Irving has found a new love interest in the form of Dylan (Zach Cherry).

The two have been close friends throughout the show, but a key scene in the Season 2 premiere has fans wondering if their relationship is skewing toward romance. During a heart-to-heart in the hallway, the two seemed moments away from kissing. Irving also dropped the romantic line, “I’m your favorite perk.” It could just be an intense display of friendship, but the pair’s chemistry is undeniable. Watch the scene for yourself here.

That chemistry is also on display in an exclusive image from later in the season, where Irving is sitting on Dylan’s desk. The duo’s body language has fans convinced that executive producer and director Ben Stiller is “cranking the age gap yaoi dial,” and we couldn’t be happier to see it.

But if Irving and Dylan do discover a romantic connection, what would happen if Burt does return? Could a gay love triangle for the ages be on the horizon? Only time will tell. New episodes of Severance release on Apple TV+ on Fridays at 3 a.m. ET. Check out the Season 2 trailer below.
