Stars from Baby Reindeer and All of Us Strangers are joining forces in a new upcoming project. This follow-up to the hit Netflix miniseries has two estranged friends rehashing decades of their life and grappling with the age old question: “What does it mean to be a man?”
Half Man is the next major project from Richard Gadd, creator and star of Baby Reindeer. The six-part series co-stars Jamie Bell, who portrayed the ghostly father to Andrew Scott’s character Adam in All of Us Strangers.

Half Man begins at a wedding where former friends—mysteriously dubbed “brothers” in quotes—Niall ( Bell) and Ruben (Gadd) encounter one another for the first time in years. According to the official synopsis, “When Niall’s estranged ‘brother’ Ruben shows up at his wedding, it leads to a contretemps that catapults us back through their lives.
Entertainment with an edge
Whether you’re into indie comics, groundbreaking music, or queer cinema, we’re here to keep you in the loop.
“Spanning almost forty years from the 1980s to the present day, this ambitious series will cover the highs and lows of the brothers’ relationship, from them meeting as teenagers to their falling out as adults — with all the good, bad, terrible, funny, angry, and challenging moments along the way. It will capture the wild energy of a changing city — a changing world, even — and try to get to the bottom of the difficult question… What does it mean to be a man?”
In a statement accompanying the announcement, Gadd had nothing but glowing remarks for his co-star, describing how nervous he was to secure his ideal cast. “I am delighted to confirm I will be playing Ruben in the newly crowned Half Man for the BBC / HBO alongside the incomparable Jamie Bell,” he said.
“When I wrote the show, I did it with him in mind, never thinking for a second we would manage to land him. So I could not be happier for everything that has come to pass in getting him on board. He is one of the greatest actors of his generation and I am so looking forward to seeing what he does with the role. Thanks to all the staff at the BBC, HBO, and Mam Tor Productions for making it all happen. I cannot wait to work with you all in the months ahead.”
Bell, on the other hand, had only praise for Gadd’s script. “I’m so excited to join this incredible creative team,” he said. “Richard has once again crafted something poignant and singular. I’m honored to have been asked to bring this to life with him.”
Half Man will begin filming next year in Scotland and will eventually air on HBO in the US and BBC in the UK.
