‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ celebrates 15th anniversary by driving the internet down memory lane

RuPaul’s Drag Race is celebrating 15 years of slaying runways and sickening “RuVeals.”

To say that Drag Race is a cultural phenomenon is an understatement. Ever since season one premiered in 2009, the art of drag and the drag community have evolved immensely.

Drag Race brings together a cadre of drag artists from all different walks of life to show off their drag and compete for a cash prize and bragging rights. What was once a fledgling reality TV series on Logo TV helmed by famed drag artist RuPaul Charles has now become an international sensation, with various international spin-offs, webseries, an annual convention, and several accolades.

Well-known drag artists, such as Bianca Del Rio, Peppermint, Trixie Mattel, Shea Couleé, Gottmik, and more have launched successful careers post-Drag Race in makeup, music, film, and TV. With its 16th U.S. season underway, the internet drove down memory lane, discussing some the show’s most spectacular (and tea-filled) moments.

Who can forget Alexis Mateo’s antics on Drag Race season 3, All Stars, and All Stars 5?

And we certainly remember the drama between season two’s (the other) Tyra, Jujubee, and Tatianna.

How about this scene-stealing lip sync of Natalie Cole’s “This Will Be” by Dida Ritz, in front of Cole herself, on season 9.

Then there was that moment where it was Mimi Imfurst versus everyone in the “Werk Room” on the first All Stars.

Where are our Katya stans? This performance on All Stars 2 is nothing short of phenomenal.

Most fans can recite Shangela’s season 3 monologue verbatim.

And what’s Drag Race without Miss Vanjie?

Needless to say, there are too many fabulous Drag Race moments to count, but here’s to 15 more years of fabulous lip syncs, runways, and “Snatch Games.” You can check out the extravaganza that is RuPaul’s Drag Race on MTV.
