Dynamic Duo

There’s something very gay about this ‘House of the Dragon’ photoshoot

*House of the Dragon spoilers ahead

This recent House of the Dragon photoshoot has the internet unwell.

Hold onto your Negroni Sbagliatos. Season two of House of the Dragon is on the horizon, bringing George R.R. Martin’s “Dance of the Dragons” to TV screens worldwide. The Game of Thrones spin-off series is bringing back plenty of drama, deception, and dragons.

The series, starring leads Emma D’Arcy and Olivia Cooke, chronicles the Targaryen civil war where King Viserys I’s (Paddy Considine) children duke it out with for control of the Iron Throne. Based on parts of Martin’s 2018 novel Fire and Blood, the upcoming season will dive deeper into the Targaryen Civil War pitting Team Black, led by Princess Rhaenyra (D’Arcy), against Team Green, led by Queen Alicent Hightower (Cooke). And with new season coming this June, HotD press is underway and D’Arcy and Cooke are Entertainment Weekly‘s cover stars.

The dynamic duo play a life-sized game of chess for EW’s virtual cover, before circling each other to symbolize the “Dance of Dragons.” The interview does the recap of the series to date, while highlighting what to expect from Team Black and Team Green. And while we all want the tea on what’s to come from HotD, the internet can’t get over the EW photoshoot between besties D’Arcy and Cooke.

While numerous photos of the cast in the upcoming season flood the interview, fans can’t take their eyes off of D’Arcy and Cooke’s joint photos. HotD season one press highlighted the chemistry between the two actors and gave birth to the iconic Negroni Sbagliato meme. Additionally, fans of HotD season one picked up on the sapphic undertones within Rhaenyra and Alicent’s relationship during their teens (with young Rhaenyra and young Alicent played by Milly Alcock and Emily Carey respectively).

So for this recent EW photoshoot to come out, fans are falling in love, once again, with D’Arcy and Cooke’s connection.

Some fans are even begging for D’Arcy and Cooke to be lovers in a movie together. A sapphic psychological thriller, anyone?

Fans even challenged Interview with the Vampire cast members to recreate their own photoshoot. Wouldn’t be hard, as the chemistry between Jacob Anderson and Sam Reid is electric.

House of the Dragon (and Game of Thrones) already differ from the books that inspired them. While Game of Thrones readers already know how Rhaenyra and Alicent’s story ends, perhaps we can get a different finale where both queens end up together. Only time will tell.

In the meantime, prepare to raise your banners when House of the Dragon season two premieres on June 16 on Max.
