Lesbian Bridgerton fans are not pleased with the news that an unexpected character is potentially straight. Bridgerton is one of Netflix’s most popular shows for its aesthetically pleasing designs, beautiful gowns, deep yearning, and for how insatiably randy the characters are. Yes, we’re looking at you, Simone Ashley and Jonathan Bailey!
But with the news that Eloise Bridgerton, played by Claudia Jessie, is rumored to lead season 5, sapphics are not thrilled, since the show plans to pair Eloise with her book’s romantic interest, Sir Philip Crane. Eloise Bridgerton is an intelligent, independent feminist bookworm who doesn’t want to abide by the societal norms of being a mother and housewife. She has dreams and aspirations to be more than someone’s wife and see the world, which has fans deeply confused about the show’s choice to pair her with a man.

But the show, despite wanting to pay fan service in some ways, seems to be shy to highlight a primary queer romance. As we know, manny Bridgerton fans are quite intense, as we’ve seen their racist, homophobic, misogynist behavior for the race-bending, plus size inclusion, and additions of queer representation that’s not reflected in the books. So it wouldn’t be a shock if fan favorite Elosie Bridgerton ends up staying true to the timeline set down by the books.
Regardless, we love the series’s portrayal of Elosie’s bravery and autonomy, We hope she receives a storyline that best suits her character, whether she ends up with a romantic partner or not.
