Jonathan Bailey as a hot professor? Yes, please.
As previously announced, Bailey will be making a cameo in the upcoming third season of Netflix’s Heartstopper, and now, we have a good look at his character.
Bailey will play Jack Maddox, an Instagram-famous academic that Charlie (Joe Locke) has a major crush on. In a new clip, Bailey delivers one of the series’ signature “hi”s in a tan suit and glasses and cartoon leaves swirl around him. It’s a short clip, but it’s all we need to be head over heels for the new season.
Entertainment with an edge
Whether you’re into indie comics, groundbreaking music, or queer cinema, we’re here to keep you in the loop twice a week.
Bailey’s character doesn’t appear in the mainline Heartstopper comics, only in a bonus mini-comic called “The Ethics of Infatuation Dynamics,” all about Charlie and Nick coming to terms with each other’s celebrity crushes. It is, predictably, adorable — you can read it for yourself here.
The clip comes along with two new casting announcements: Eddie Marsan will play Geoff, Charlie’s therapist and a fan favorite character, and Hayley Atwell will play Nick’s Aunt Diane. In the comics, she’s a very minor character — but given that Olivia Colman won’t be returning as Nick’s mom for Season 3, she’ll likely take on a larger role.

The story has gone viral for all the right reasons.
Per series creator Alice Oseman, Aunt Diane “has some tough advice to impart about [Nick’s] relationship,” likely referring to a scene from the comics where Nick and his mom have a difficult conversation about Charlie’s mental health. If Colman can’t be there to tug on our heartstrings, Atwell is a perfect replacement.
“I am incredibly excited to be welcoming three new cast members to the Heartstopper family,” Oseman told Netflix. “It was an absolute joy to see Hayley, Eddie, and Jonathan’s talent alongside our existing cast, and I can’t wait for the Heartstopper fans to meet these new characters.”
Season 3 of Heartstopper arrives this October on Netflix.
