Just when you thought you couldn’t love the multi-talented beam of queer light that is singer, actor, and activist Demi Lovato, they come out as nonbinary.
That’s right: this morning, the “Dancing With the Devil/The Art of Starting Over” singer came out as nonbinary.
Today is a day I’m so happy to share more of my life with you all- I am proud to let you know that I identify as non-binary & will officially be changing my pronouns to they/them moving forward 💖

“This has come after a lot of healing & self-reflective work,” Lovato added. “I’m still learning & coming into myself, & I don’t claim to be an expert or a spokesperson. Sharing this with you now opens another level of vulnerability for me.” If there’s anyone who knows how to be vulnerable, it’s Demi Lovato, an artist who paved the way for a new, open conversation around addiction and eating disorders in Hollywood. They’ve been honest about their struggle with addiction for years, and their two most recent albums, 2017’s “Tell Me You Love Me” and 2021’s “Dancing With the Devil/The Art of Starting Over” have dealt openly with Lovato’s breakups, low moments, and struggles with self-love. As Lovato continues to come into their own, their candidness around the hard subjects that no one seems to want to talk about has gained them loyal fans in the queer community–especially after the singer came out as queer last year. Their new album goes into detail about their queerness, in fact. The standout hit “The Kind of Lover I Am” goes: “Doesn’t matter you’re a woman or man/ That’s the kind of lover I am” Before launching into a spoken segment where Demi themselves explains, “if somebody comes along, and they just look at me the right way and tells the right joke, I don’t care if you’ve got a dick, I don’t care if you’ve got a WAP, I just want to love.”

Yesterday, Lovato took the opportunity to reach out to fans to spread awareness about eating disorders, which are among the deadliest mental illnesses, affecting 9% of the American population as a whole.
I am one of the 28.8 million Americans who will have an eating disorder in their lifetime. There were times I felt completely alone and that no one else could relate. But I know that I am not alone – and neither are you. pic.twitter.com/zNlNwBu0tq

And just when you thought it wasn’t possible for Lovato to advocate any harder for a better world, they dropped the casual coming out this morning, along with a fresh new haircut.
Every day we wake up, we are given another opportunity & chance to be who we want & wish to be. I’ve spent the majority of my life growing in front of all of you… you’ve seen the good, the bad, & everything in between. pic.twitter.com/HSBcfmNruo

Halsey, Kehlani, and Demi Lovato all said it’s *their* year and I love this for us. 💛🤍💜🖤

While user @offbeatkiki reminded us that nonbinary doesn’t look any one way–that’s the beauty of it, babe!
demi lovato came out as nonbinary today! here are a few other big music acts who identify as nonbinary or genderfluid – sam smith, miley cyrus, janelle monae. nonbinary doesn’t have to look a certain way. pic.twitter.com/cTkUrqIgSB
