As we reported on Friday, GOP Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene got into a heated spat during a committee meeting hearing with Democratic Rep. Jasmine Crockett last Thursday evening.

Lawmakers were debating whether to hold Attorney General Merrick Garland in contempt of Congress. However, Greene threw a spanner into the discussion by asking whether any of the Democrats present employed the daughter of the judge overseeing former President Trump’s hush money case.

“Please tell me what that has to do with Merrick Garland,” Rep. Crockett (D-Texas) responded at the time. “Do you know what we’re here for?”

“I don’t think you know what you’re here for,” Greene responded. “I think your fake eyelashes are messing up what you’re reading.”

Uproar over the personal comments ensued.

Crockett sought clarification from Chairman James Comer on whether comments about personal appearance were allowed in the chamber. She offered up a hypothetical.

“I’m just curious, just to better understand your ruling,” Crockett said to Comer. “If someone on this committee then starts talking about somebody’s bleach blonde bad built butch body, that would not be engaging in personalities, correct?”

Everyone took this as a veiled comment toward MTG.

T-shirts

Clips of the exchange quickly went viral. Crockett herself was quick to capitalize on the praise her comments received. She’s now producing a range of T-shirts as part of a “Crockett Clapback Collection.”

“This collection will feature various swag that includes random things I’ve said,” she said in a tweet. “The money will go to ensuring that we have a Democratic House! Give me a little time to really get the swag online etc., but B6 will drop first.”

B6 is a reference to “bleach blonde bad built butch body.”

Diss tracks

She followed this up by re-tweeting several diss tracks that have come to her attention that use her comments.

There has been a ripple of criticism at Crockett’s use of the term “butch body” as an insult. She said she was aware of it and “meant no harm”.

In answer to some inquiries, Crockett also insisted she won’t be recording any songs herself.

Crockett also rebuffed suggestions she was stooping to the same level as Greene.

Many others spent the weekend trolling MTG with the phrase, including Democratic Rep. Jared Moskowitz.

Marjorie Taylor Greene responds

For her own part, Marjorie Taylor Greene took to social media to complain about how Democratic lawmakers behave in committee hearings. She claimed, with no trace of irony, that by repeatedly attacking former President Trump, they lack “decorum”.

“How ridiculous is it that the Speaker runs his mouth about decorum when our opposition refuses to follow it at all.

“AOC isn’t intelligent. Jasmine Crockett has fake eyelashes,” she added. “These aren’t attacks on personalities. These are just facts.”

Many were quick to point out that MTG had no place giving lectures on decorum: she was the one to start throwing around comments about personal appearances. Or they simply trolled her some more.
