Washington State Becomes 10th State To Ban Conversion Therapy

· Updated on May 28, 2018

The state of Washington has become the 10th state in the United States to effectively ban the practice of “conversion therapy” on minors.

On Wednesday afternoon, Governor Jay Inslee signed into law SB 5722, which will now protect all youth from the unscientific and dangerous practice of forcing people who identify as LGBTQ to no longer identity as such.

Legal battles have been continually waged on the state-level for decades against this type of legislation that continues to remain hard to ban making Washington’s success a moment of hope for many who appose it.

“No child should be put through the dangerous and abusive practice of conversion therapy,” said Human Rights Campaign’s President Chad Griffin. “Medical professionals agree this harmful and discredited practice not only doesn’t work, but can also have life-threatening consequences.”
