According to the New York Times, Republicans have spent over $65 million on anti-trans ads during the election season, more than any other issue. And according to Gay Times, Republican multibillionaires have been funding these ads, including Jeff Yass, Richard & Elizabeth Uihlein, and Miriam Adelson.
However, the one spending the most on these ads is none other than Timothy Mellon, Andrew Mellon’s grandson. The businessman has given over $225 million to a plethora of Republican candidates across the country. His latest donation was a whopping $25 million to the far-right super PAC MAGA Inc back in September.
Undeniably, a good portion of this money would have had to go to funding these anti-trans ads.
Mellon is currently the biggest donor to the Republican party, who has been spending more and more money as time goes on to far-right causes.

While Mellon got his political start in the 70s by funding progressive causes, wealth and time caused him to drift more and more to the far right. He was one of the initial funders for the Heritage Foundation—the group behind Project 2025—and donated to the group that spearheaded the line “The Homosexual Agenda.”
In his 2014 memoir published by controversial imprint Skyhorse books, he’s quoted as saying, “Black people … [have become] even more belligerent and unwilling to pitch in to improve their own situations … They have become slaves of a new Master, Uncle Sam. Slavery Redux. For delivering their votes in the Federal Elections, they are awarded with yet more and more freebies: food stamps, cell phones, WIC payments, Obamacare, and on, and on, and on.”
Sadly, Mellon’s family funds have the potential to radically change the course of elections, completely altering the path of where people vote in favor of whatever he wants.
Thankfully, money isn’t everything when it comes to elections.
