A Florida trans woman changed her license gender marker. Then the government revoked it.

TikTok is becoming many things for trans folks facing the imminent threat of a Trump presidency. In the app’s short lifespan, it’s been a resource, a lifeline, place to sound off and to share tips on basic survival in a timeline where our very existence in under threat.

But now, thanks to alt right trolls, it’s becoming yet another unsafe place even for those with good intentions.

After trans TikToker @jamesissmiling posted a series of videos helping trans folks figure out ways to legally change their gender markers to the correct identification, she founds herself the subject of a LibsofTikTok post.

A trans woman on tiktok posted about getting her gender marker changed on her Florida drivers license. Florida investigated her over it, canceled her license, and then leaked the story to libs of tiktok to announce it publicly to humiliate her.

The TikToker’s own license—with her correct gender marker—has now been revoked, thanks to trolls bringing the wrong kind of attention to the video.

It’s a bleak start to the year, and a sign of what we can certainly expect in states like Florida and Texas as the Trump regime begins again. But their advice about changing gender markers on legal documents still holds.
