A Minnesota sponsor of a trans sports ban to “protect kids” was just arrested for soliciting minors

A Republican State senator was arrested in Bloomington Minnesota on suspicion of soliciting an underage girl for sex.

The perp in question is none other than 40-year-old Justin Eichorn of the Minnesota State Senate (R-district 6). He presumably drove 3 hours from his home in Grand Rapids, Minnesota to the beloved home of Camp Snoopy and one of 16 Rainforest Cafes statewode to meet what he thought was a 16-year-old girl.

What he didn’t realize was that the teenage girl was actually an adult detective posing as a young girl in a predator sting operation. Eichorn was quickly arrested after arriving in his pickup truck at the rendezvous point. The plot thickens as some people begin to point out that he is one of 5 people co-authoring SF 2531 an anti-trans sports ban that would make it so “only students of the female sex may participate in an elementary or secondary school level athletic team or sport that an educational institution has restricted on the basis of sex to women or girls.”

We’ve all heard the arguments from Republicans about how anti-trans initiatives are about “protecting the kids.” But it doesn’t take much to expose the lie embedded in this rhetoric—especially when some of the people creating these bills are alleged predators themselves. It’s a story as old as time itself, and just further shows that people who live in glass homes should not throw stones.

It doesn’t make a lot of sense when Republicans claim trans people are engaged in a plot to peep at women in the restroom when those same Republicans are the ones actually arranging meetups with underage girls. But again, anti-trans attacks are a smokescreen: the real predators are often the people who are already in power.

It’s also worth noting that this incident occurred on the same day Eichorn’s name was added to SF 2531 as an author. Minnesota is a trans sanctuary state, meaning this bill had very little chance to begin with, and now that one of the authors is an alleged p*dophile, you might as well just take a lighter to the folder and run it through the shredder.
