After Musk’s input, Republicans are trying to *checks notes* defund childhood cancer research?

Just when you thought things couldn’t get worse, Mike Johnson comes up with a horrible idea inspired by a horrible man. After Elon Musk—who seemed to openly announce his foul intentions for the US government in a recent X post—started tweeting about his dislike of Johnson’s previous bill, we got a new version, and boy is it hellish.

He's literally trying to buy himself congress, right out in the open.

The world's richest man managed to take $190 million away from a *child cancer research center* with his posts yesterday. Funding now stripped in the new bill.

The bill is just a proposal as of yet, but it does indeed suggest that we should strip federal funding from a children’s cancer research center—The 10-year-old Gabriella Miller Kids First Pediatric Research Program—and use the funds elsewhere. Which is, to be clear, diabolical.

A leading pediatric cancer group 2 days ago celebrated the child cancer research funding 👇🏽- until President Musk & VP Trump demanded cuts… and it came out of the bill. 💔

Hopefully no MAGA has a child with cancer—nor will ever have a child with cancer—because the first act of DOGE was to cut pediatric cancer research. MAGAs’ cheers and tears of joy at the emergence of an illegal billionaires’ lobbying scam is almost certain to have already marked some kids for death.

Shocking, heartless, idiotic, cowardly—there are many words to describe this move. “Smart” ain’t one of them.

Even more disheartening is the fact that this story isn’t making headlines the way it should.

if 90% of the population still got its news from 3 tv stations "the president elect got congress to cut child cancer research" would lead his political party into at least 8 years of darkness but unfortunately the internet has a few downsides

According to Forbes, this isn’t the first time something of this nature has happened either…

As we’re being reminded of daily, democracy doesn’t actually die in darkness. It dies with the lights blazing and everyone talking about something else.
