To EGOT, a term credited to actor Philip Michael Thomas and later popularized by a 2010 episode of 30 Rock, refers to the act of winning an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar, and a Tony. Only 12 people have ever managed to successfully EGOT, among them Whoopi Goldberg, Rita Moreno, and a bunch of composers. Could Beyoncé be that 13th? She already has the Grammyshe has 22 Grammys, in factand it looks she just might have a viable chance at nabbing the Oscar that eluded her back in ‘06.
The New York Daily News reports that Elton John has signed on to Disney’s 2019 Lion King live-action remake. Reportedly, this will involve “working alongside Beyoncé [who voices Nala in the film] to breathe new life into the classics.”
“The songs will be thread into the storyline,” a source told the Daily News. “It is unthinkable when you have Beyoncé involved not to have her sing some of those iconic hitsand that means huge sales to a new generation. The deal is a huge one and will earn him millions at many stages. Obviously [Elton John] will get a one off licensing deal followed by a cut in royalties from all aspects of the work.”
While the report says nothing of new music being created specifically for the Jon Favreau-directed filmwho cares! What is life but one never-ending series of wild speculations. Speaking of which, Beyoncé will win the Academy Award for Best Original Song for her Lion King Elton John duet, “Hello Simba It Is I Nala (And I’m Singing).” Calling it now!!
