Queer folks are ecstatic about the release of GTA 6’s second trailer, following the news that it was pushed back another year. The community is specifically raving about the chaotic, stunning world inspired by Miami, Florida, and its fast-paced culture, featuring captivating, stylish women. However, the chronically online fanboys have a different response, one that (shocker) involves violence.

Allegedly, a fan sparked the discourse between the basement dwellers and the queer community by posting a picture on Twitter of two characters that favor GTA 6’s graphic style with a pride flag in the background, suggesting the game will feature pride parades. We have watched both GTA 6 trailers multiple times, and neither showcased an ounce of queerness, debunking the picture as either AI-generated or a fan-made edit.
That didn’t stop edgelords from creating threatening Twitter posts and Reddit threads, among other vitriol directed at queer gamers.

There is plenty to critique about the GTA franchise, especially its lack of proper representation of the queer community. Its also disheartening that Rockstar hasn’t addressed the harassment, violence, and bullying targeted towards its queer fanbase because it’s essential, especially now more than ever, to represent and stand up for queer gamers.
We will always advocate for the community to go where they are loved, supported, and cherished. If you are interested in a game similar to GTA with queer representation, we suggest trying the Saints Row series! The franchise doesn’t explicitly have sexual identities listed, but you are allowed to sleep with any gender in SR3 and SR4, and the game heavily uses gender-neutral pronouns.
