You heard that right: Using a rhetoric device similar to the “Kamala is for they/them” smear campaign of last year, certain online jerks are calling out Mark Carney, Canada’s Liberal Party leader since earlier this month, for doing exactly what a caring father should do. Loving his queer child and not immediately shoving said child into conversion therapy and/or a gas oven.
If loving your nonbinary offspring is wrong, I’m guessing that a lot of us don’t want to be right. Seems kind of just like common sense to not be a monster to your spawn.
Some context: Mark Carney’s child Sasha Carney is a Yale graduate who interned over the summer at a Canadian farm as part of the school’s sustainable food program. They’re also an awarded poet and writer at the young age of 24. And it seems like they’ve gotten nothing from support from their family, which we love to see and wish we saw more of right about now.
The gist is…leave Sasha Carney alone? And leave Mark Carney alone too while you’re at it. Let these people live their peaceful, joyful Canadian lives in peace!
