This makeup trend is an entire philosophy

Ladies, we all have that one unemployed guy asking for a crumb of c**chie in our DMs at 3 in the morning on a Tuesday. I know: ew.

Usually, you just block and ignore them, but why not take it a step further and make it so men would think twice about coming into your private messages, believing it’s okay to fetishize you because you’re trans, even to the point of referring to you as a femboy? (true story)

This makeup trend has you covered.

Man Repellent, as the name implies, is a makeup and fashion trend that embraces unconventional style choices, prioritizing personal expression over what men find attractive. Perhaps taking cues from Leandra Medine’s Man Repeller aesthetic, this trend proves that makeup is at its best when it’s about personal expression, not the male gaze.

Instagram makeup artist/influencer Andreaurh takes things a step further with makeup looks designed to repulse and scare away weak-minded men.

This look, called “Disease Makeup”, suggests an aesthetic that is beyond sickly, with Andreaurh giving Matriarch of Pestilence. The pale, veiny complexion, the blood-filled eyes, and the stringy blood off the side of the face perfectly encapsulate the feeling of wishing the bubonic plague on the guy who sent an unsolicited pic of his mortal tool of eldritch horror.

Andreaurh continues this trend with another look entitled “Rotten Orchid,” meant to be reminiscent of a dead or blighted flower. While not as extreme as her disease makeup, it features a pale, deathly complexion with a yellowish blush and darkened eyes and lips. The main centerpiece of this look is the use of a glittery magenta around the eyes with an inverted eyeliner wing style on the bottom of the eyes going inwards instead of outwards, breaking into a flower petal design lending its name.

Andreaurh does a lot of these unconventional and creative looks that embrace makeup not as a tool of conforming to the mainstream media’s idea of beauty, but as a way to express oneself. Sure, you could be Beauty, but the Beast is way more fun.
