Chappell Roan says Orville Peck changed her life. Here’s why.

Chappell Roan has changed thousands of fans’ lives with her music. Now, she’s named an artist that changed her life for the better: queer country icon Orville Peck.

In a new interview with Nardwuar, the eccentric journalist asked Roan how she first heard of Peck.

“I first heard of him ‘cause my friend said, ‘Look at this guy; he’s so hot.’ And he had his mask on and everything, and I was like, ‘God, who is this?’” Roan recalled. (A relatable feeling, especially to anyone who saw Peck’s thirst-inducing PAPER Magazine cover this June.)

“Went to see him, and his show changed my whole life. Changed how I do shows,” she continued. “Because he performed at the Troubadour in West Hollywood, and he had local drag queens open up for him. Meatball was one of them. And I told myself from that show, ‘If I ever perform my own headline shows, I’m gonna have local drag queens open up for me too.’ And then I did. So he changed my life, and now we’re friends.”

True to her word, Roan platformed local drag artists throughout her recent Midwest Princess Tour, including queens Suzie Toot and Lydia B. Kollins who have since been cast on RuPaul’s Drag Race and will be appearing on Season 17. Will a Chappell lip sync make its way onto the season as well? Only time will tell.

It’s not the first time Roan’s shown love for Peck. In her Rolling Stone interview this September, she named him as one of only a few famous men who reached out to support her during her hectic summer (also mentioning Troye Sivan and Elton John). And Peck is one of several celebrities to offer a take on Roan’s queer anthem “Pink Pony Club.” Check it out below.

Naturally, fans are now hoping to see a full-fledged collab between the two. We know from Roan’s SNL performance of “The Giver” that she’s more than capable of writing a country bop, so a duet with Peck would only make sense.
