Lily-Rose Depp and her girlfriend, rapper 070 Shake, are relationship goals. The two have been together since January of 2023, and though they’ve kept their relationship mostly private, Depp recently showed love to Shake’s next musical project with a post that’s stirring up drama on social media.
On her Instagram story, Depp posted a picture from the listening party for Shake’s upcoming third album Petrichor, which releases on Friday, November 15. “Insanely beautiful. Insanely proud of you @070shake,” she wrote. “A night I’ll never forget!!!!!!!!! Petrichor ballet wtf! My boyfriend is so cool.”

Our newsletter will bring you the pulse of queer culture, from the tastemakers to the groundbreakers.
It’s the last line that raised eyebrows, particularly from straight folks who can’t seem to fathom the concept of calling a woman your boyfriend.
That’s not a woman?

RelatedThe word “sapphic” is meant to encompass all queer women — but a controversial post has people questioning its use.Isn’t a “social experiment” supposed to end once you reveal it to the public?
But queer folks were quick to school the rest of the internet while urging non-lesbians — especially straight people — to stay out of sapphic business. Depp is far from the first queer woman to call her girlfriend a boyfriend; she’s just one of the first to do so in the public eye. It all goes to show that gendered terms, like gender itself, aren’t as binary as cishet folks would like to believe.
Some even celebrated Depp’s word choice, excited to see the concept of a “lesbian boyfriend” going mainstream.
When Depp’s not shaking up straight people’s perceptions of relationships, she’s busy getting rave reviews for her leading performance in Robert Eggers’ upcoming horror film Nosferatu, which comes to theaters on December 25. Check out the trailer below.
