Iconic singer-songwriter Mitski is a very private person. There’s not much we know about her apart from the fact that her songs rule and that “The Land is Inhospitable and So Are We” is a modern masterpiece, and so is “Puberty 2”. And so is “Be the Cowboy.” Basically everything she’s ever done.
But after a photo of the celebrity collab to end all celebrity collabs started circulating, those of us who clocked the she/her pronouns in the love song “My Love/Mine All Mine” are tingling all over.
Related“Everything she has ever asked for has been reasonable,” Yang wrote after intense backlash from some of Roan’s fans.
When the singer posted a photo of herself with famed therapy rabbit influencer Alex the Great, gays across the Internet went wild. It was nothing we expected, and everything we didn’t know we needed.
Culture, unfiltered
Twice a week, our newsletter will bring you the pulse of queer culture, from the tastemakers to the groundbreakers.
Rocking frameless glasses and a gloriously futch haircut, Mitski looks amazing. More importantly, she looks sensationally happy. Who wouldn’t be with a Flemish giant rabbit on their lap?
Judging from Alex the Great’s hat, this meeting of the minds took place some weeks ago at the Outside Lands music festival, where he gave rock stars some much-needed bunny therapy and also managed to hobnob with queer icon Chappell Roan.
But apart from engaging in very important bunny lore, there’s something else Mitski is doing in the photo with Alex the Great. She’s serving a very specific lewk, and we’re obsessed with it.
Does she…you know…love Steven Universe?
She’s serving futch excellence and we must stan.
It’s giving gender euphoria, it’s giving rabbit euphoria, it’s giving the meeting of the century. And most importantly, it’s giving gay icon.
Basically we’ve never seen a better photo in our lives. Mitski’s thrilled expression, Alex’s contented pose, the Mulholland Drive shirt…it’s everything we needed.
It’s like she knew we needed this powerful image to get us through the rest of the year.
We are learning, and we are growing.
