We’ve spoken before about our obsession with Matt Damon and Ben Affleck’s age-old bromance, and it remains a subject of pure fascination. These two wrote a movie together, spent their teen years borrowing each others’ puka shell necklaces, and most certainly have glimpsed each others’ d*cks at least a few times.

Their script was tight, and so were their buns.
And now, we’re learning something even more incredible: Affleck and Damon almost starred opposite each other in the groundbreaking queer classic Brokeback Mountain.
That’s correct: an astute Internet sleuth discovered while doing research on the Ang Lee classic that Affleck and Damon were considered briefly for the roles of Jack Twist (Jack Nasty) and Ennis Del Mar before Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal were cast.

Now only one question remains: were they considered independently for these roles, or was the plan to cast them as the two lovers? Either way, the mind boggles.
While some are glad the casting turned out the way it did…
Others are obsessed with the implications of a Damon-Affleck romance.
Then again, it could all mean nothing…
Nothing at all to see here, just two besties wearing cowboy hats and talking about not being able to quit each other.
We’re holding out hope that this movie—or something like it—could eventually come to fruition.
