R&B star Khalid reacts in best way possible to being outed

Khalid opened up about his sexuality on Friday afternoon, confirming he’s gay after an ex outed him. 

The 26-year-old “Location” singer, full name Khalid Donnel Robinson, posted to X a rainbow emoji and a comment reading, “There yall go. next topic please lol.”

Khalid’s postings came after another singer, Hugo Almonte, posted a series of tweets in which he criticized a “gay R&B singer” he had dated. 

“I was dating this dumb a** singer he’s ugly as f**k but he tried to set me up and lie that I broke into his house because I broke up with him like why would I go to your house and do that you dumb a**!”

Almonte then shared a photo of himself and Khalid. He later deleted the posts and photo. 

In a statement to Rolling Stone, Almonte said, he wanted to “share how he tried to use his power to silence me because I simply ended our relationship … I was holding onto this for five years, and I finally had enough.”

He said he had since received death threats from people online who accused him of “chasing clout” with his claims. 

Khalid continued to post online over the weekend and respond to comments by followers. 

“I got outted and the world still continues to turn. Let’s get this straight (lmao) I am not ashamed of my sexuality! In reality it ain’t nobodies business! But I am okay with me 🖤 love yall”

Responding to one person who said “the closet was glass baby. but we accept you. its not about who you love its about your artistry!”, Khalid said, “I wasn’t hiding anything! It’s just not any of your business.”

Another fan said that most people missed the fact that Khalid’s 2022 song “Satellite” was a queer anthem. Khalid reposted this, saying, “thank you!!! I was never hiding.” 

In a post on Saturday night, Khalid referenced something else Almonte had said. 

“None of this will make me think I’m ugly,” Khalid said.

That prompted 60k likes and hundreds of comments. Many want to reassure Khalid he’s anything but ugly. 

Khalid heralds from El Paso, Texas. He released his debut single “Location” in 2016. It and the 2017 follow-up “Young Dumb & Broke” were Billboard top twenty hits. He released his third album, “Sincere” in August. He has almost seven million followers on Instagram and just under five million on X.
