It’s Official, Cardi B’s “Bodak Yellow” Is #1

· Updated on May 28, 2018

It may have taken until Autumn, but one of the biggest songs of summer is now number one.

According to Billboard, rapper Cardi B’s debut single “Bodak Yellow,” the first single from her upcoming debut album, is now the #1 song in the country. This honor makes Cardi B the first female rapper to nab the top spot without a featured artist since Lauryn Hill in 1998 almost 20 years ago.

Cardi B is also only the fifth female rapper to top the charts. The others include Lil’ Kim as part of the “Lady Marmalade” crew, Shawnna as a featured rapper on Ludacris’ “Stand Up” and Iggy Azalea’s “Fancy,” which featured Charli XCX.

Adding to the list of honorifics, Cardi B is also the first solo female artist to top the charts without a feature since Meghan Trainor’s “All About That Bass” in 2014.

“Bodak Yellow,” has not been everyone’s cup of tea, but there’s no song this summer that has made people feel more on top of the world than this rap number. Celebrate its chart-topping feat with some red bottoms.
