It was a relatively sleepy first half of the 69th Primetime Emmy Awards, save an exciting win for Kate McKinnon and a decent-if-expected musical number from host Stephen Colbert. But it was a reunion of the women of 9 to 5, Lily Tomlin, Jane Fonda and Dolly Parton, that woke us up.
The three living legends the former two of whom currently star on Netflix’s Grace & Frankie together were welcomed to the stage by a rapturous standing ovation. “We appreciate that, and personally, I have been waiting for a 9 to 5 reunion ever since we did the first one,” Parton admitted.
Fonda reflected fondly on shooting the film. “We refused to be controlled by a sexist, egotistical, lying, hypocritical bigot,” she said, decked out in her fabulous new bangs.
Her costar Tomlin went for the kill, not letting the chance to get a shot at President Donald Trump in. “And in 2017, we still refuse to be controlled by a sexist, egotistical, lying, hypocritical bigot,” she said.
Though the reunion was brief, as the women presented Alexander Skarsgard with his Emmy for Big Little Lies, it got us eager for a reunion. 9 to 5 Part 2, perhaps? At least give us a Parton guest spot on Grace & Frankie, ladies!
