While Republicans are content to blame every problem under the sun on the existence of trans people, we know that the biggest threat to American freedoms and livelihoods currently resides in the Oval Office. One Democrat drove that message home to her GOP colleagues in the House of Representatives through a little game called ‘Trump or Trans.’

On Wednesday, Rep Jasmine Crockett spoke out at the DOGE hearing on trans athletes in sports. Titled “Unfair Play: Keeping Men Out of Women’s Sports,” the hearing was organized in response to the disqualification of a US fencer who refused to face a trans opponent in a university tournament. During a prior congressional hearing, the NCAA president famously said that there are less than 10 trans athletes in collegiate sports.
“This hearing has nothing to do with improving government efficiency,” Crockett said when it was her turn to take the podium. “It’s another attempt by Republicans to distract from their demonic and disastrous policies that are making it more difficult for Americans to make ends meet.”

Crockett then presented National Women’s Law Center CEO Fatima Goss Graves, the Democrats’ sole witness, with a game of her own creation: ‘Trump or Trans.’ “I’m going to ask you a question and I want you to tell me whether it’s Trump or trans people that are responsible,” she explained.
Who, Crockett asked, was responsible for “gutted medical research,” “kidnapping Americans and sending them to foreign countries,” “driving us into a recession,” “increasing the cost of everything,” “waging an idiotic tariff war,” “harming farmers,” “ignoring the constitution” or “proposing to take away Social Security?”
Graves answered “Trump” every single time.

In her opening remarks, Crockett exposed the Republican farce that they are the true defenders of women. “It is so interesting that I just learned today, at 44 years old, that the Republicans are going to be the ones who save women,” she said.
Crockett went on to note with sarcasm how well Republicans supported the Equal Rights Act, which would have codified equal rights for women in the constitution. (Spoiler: Republicans have been the ERA’s chief opponents since the 70s). She also called out the Trump administration for cutting federal funding to domestic violence shelters and family planning centers, not to mention dismantling Roe v Wade.
“And yet,” Crockett succinctly summed up, “they’re here today trying to convince the American people that discriminating against trans people is somehow the only way to protect women.”
