Among the speakers was Hacks actress and bisexual icon Hannah Einbinder who received the HRC visibility award at the event. She gave a speech thanking the HRC not only for the award but for the years of continually fighting for the rights that allowed her to be on that stage sporting a snazzy black pinstripe suit.

U.S. Representative Jasmine Crockett also spoke, using her 20-minute speech to express how important it is to fight against the current administration and stand up for our rights. Crockett also shared a story about Lauren Boebert, who recently thought she saw Rep. Sarah McBride enter the women’s restroom so she got Nancy Mace to join her and confront her, only to realize the person wasn’t even McBride.
“You campaigned on being bathroom police and you f*cked that up,” Crockett stated.
Crockett wasn’t the only one who offered words of resistance. Governor JB Pritzker of Illinois had a few things he wanted to get off his chest. He shared a story about him attending pride events as a child.
“I’m living proof that introducing your kids to the gay agenda might result in them growing up to be governor.”
But my favorite Pritzker quote by was this, delivered with true Chicagoan gusto – “The response to authoritarianism isn’t acquiescence. Bullies respond to one thing and one thing only: a punch in the face.”
JB Pritzker does not shy away from calling out the MAGA movement for what it really is: a Nazi takeover.
“If you think I’m overreacting and sounding the alarm too soon, consider this,” he told The Associated Press. “It took the Nazis one month, three weeks, two days, eight hours, and 40 minutes to dismantle a constitutional republic,”
In other news for the Land of Lincoln, a political YouTuber has thrown her hat into the ring, by running for Congress in Illinois 9th district. Kat Abughazaleh (D) makes it clear that her campaign will be one of change from the complacency of the Democratic party, and, like Pritzker, believes we need to fight this current administration’s efforts to suppress our liberties. Illinois is not going down without a fight.
