As usual, JK Rowling has come so close to the point and missed it entirely. While celebrating the recent executive order on women’s sports, the billionaire author has blamed the left for Trump’s ascendency, ignoring her own role in the spread of anti-trans hysteria that has helped the right wing come to power through villainizing minorities.
On Wednesday, Trump signed an executive order that bars trans women and girls from participating in female sports at K-12 schools, colleges and Olympic programs that receive federal funding. Trump timed the signing of the order for National Girls and Women in Sports Day and surrounded himself with a crowd of young (mostly white) girls for a photo op.

“The radical left has waged an all out campaign to erase the very concept of biological sex and replace it with a militant transgender ideology,” Trump commented at the signing.

One person who has made agreeing with this sentiment the entirety of her personality is children’s author JK Rowling. “Congratulations to every single person on the left who’s been campaigning to destroy women’s and girls’ rights,” Rowling wrote on X/Twitter along with the photo of Trump at the signing. “Without you, there’d be no images like this.”
Uncharacteristically, Rowling is too modest. Over the last several years, she has become the one of the loudest voices of opposition to trans rights and a chief spreader of moral panic. In recent months, she waded disastrously into the topic of women’s sports by attacking cis women for merely seeming trans and landing herself in legal trouble.
Trump’s executive order, titled “Keeping Men Out of Women’s Sports,” states that it is now the “policy of the United States to oppose male competitive participation in women’s sports more broadly, as a matter of safety, fairness, dignity and truth.”
“In recent years, many educational institutions and athletic associations have allowed men to compete in women’s sports,” the order reads. “This is demeaning, unfair and dangerous to women and girls, and denies women and girls the equal opportunity to participate and excel in competitive sports.”
While the order cannot directly ban trans athletes from female sports, it threatens to pull funding from “educational programs that deprive women and girls of fair athletic opportunities, which results in the endangerment, humiliation, and silencing of women and girls and deprives them of privacy.” In so doing, it gives the Department of Justice the authority to investigate schools suspected of violating the order.
