Kamala’s stepdaughter Ella Emhoff is the Washington style maven America needs.

You may not be familiar with Ella Emhoff yet, but that will change soon.

And only partially because her stepmom just so happens to be the one and only Vice President Kamala Harris. 

The young style icon in the making is exactly who we want to see modeling looks against the backdrop of the White House, and the arrival of some fresh style comes not a moment too soon.

Joe Biden’s administration just passed the hundred-day mark, and the previous occupants of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue are starting to feel like a distant memory…or nightmare. So it’s easy to forget about Melania’s “I really don’t care, do you?” jacket, or that time she literally dressed up like a colonizer on a trip to Africa.

Emhoff is about as far across the style spectrum from Melania as possible. The 21-year-old model, artist, and designer made a big national splash at President Biden’s inauguration in a Miu Miu coat with crystal-encrusted shoulders over a burgundy dress by New York designer Batsheva.

Emhoff lives in Bushwick, Brooklyn and has been lovingly referred to as “The First Daughter of Bushwick.”

She’s an outspoken supporter of LGBTQ rights, particularly trans rights. In 2020 she voiced support for the organization For the Gworls, Asanni Armon’s Black, transgender-led collective that fundraises money to help Black transgender people pay for rent, gender-affirming surgeries, travel, and medical care.
