Lenses on Queerness: Fabian Guerrero

Every day this week we’ll be celebrating a different photographer who is using their social media to tell queer stories.

Meet Fabian Guerrero, a first-generation Mexican-American photographer based in Los Angeles, by way of Dallas, Texas. Self-taught and practicing since 2009, their work is significantly influenced by their Mexican heritage and experience growing up as a queer person of color surrounded by creatives.

What made you want to shoot film?

I chose film becauseI wanted a more organic and raw feel to my photos than taking a picture as is through my lens and eye.

What or who inspires your work the most?

Stefan Ruiz and Dorian Ulises Lopez Macias.

Why is LGBTQ visibility important to you, your work?

I am LGBTQ myself — it’s important to me because I want the community to feel inspired no matter what race or background you come from, because at the end of the day it’s about unity and coming together to inspire one another and uplift ourselves.

Obscure random fact no one knows about you?

I love storms and once had a fantasy of being a storm chaser. I was just upset with the weather channel at some point in my life lol.

What’s on the horizon for you in 2018?

I don’t know. Honestly, I hate thinking about the future because it stresses me out. I just go with the flow and whatever happens, happens and I take it.
