Lesbian drama Hot Milk unveils its first trailer and we are so ready

We got to see the trailer for Hot Milk starring Emma Mackey this Monday, and it is truly setting up to be quite the sapphic experience this summer in theaters.

The film is based on the Deborah Levy novel of the same name. Sofia, played by Mackey, is the caretaker for her mother Rose (the legendary stage actress Fiona Shaw.) Rose suffers from a mysterious condition that leaves her confined to a wheelchair. This, along with Rose’s overbearing demeanor, leaves the 25-year-old Sofia struggling with a lack of freedom in her life.

Things change when Sofia and Rose travel to Spain to receive treatment for Rose’s paralysis. In Spain, Rose meets Ingrid, played by Vicky Krieps, and the two become romantically involved.

From what we know about the source material, the film will explore the complex bond between the mother and daughter and how Sofia grapples with the concept of freedom after being controlled by her mother for so long.

Emma Mackey is best known for her role as Maeve Wiley in Sex Education. Vicky Krieps is known for her breakout role in the romantic period drama Phantom Thread.

Other confirmed actors include Vincent Perez (Alone in Berlin), Yann Hael (Gladiator 2), and Patsy Ferran (Mickey 17).

The film is set to hit theaters on July 4th, which is ironic considering the current anti-LGBTQ+ administration.
