According to the Hollywood Reporter, Oscar queen Meryl Streep will join the cast of the upcoming second season of hit HBO awards machine Big Little Lies, which stars Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, Shailene Woodley, Laura Dern and Zoe Kravitz.
Streep will play Mary Louise Wright, the mother of Alexander Skarsgard’s character, Perry Wright. Wright is, understandably, concerned about the well-being of her grandkids after Wright’s spoiler alert! death at the end of season one.
According to the Reporter, Lies took home eight Emmys and four Golden Globes for its first season. The second season will have seven episodes, based on a story by the novel’s original author.
According to HBO, season two will explore the “malignancy of lies, the durability of friendships, the fragility of marriage and, of course, the vicious ferocity of sound parenting. Relationships will fray, loyalties will erode the potential for emotional and bodily injury shall loom.”
