Monét X Change Was On ‘What Would You Do?’ And I’m Not Crying, You’re Crying

Monét X Change has wasted no time since Drag Race Season 10 getting her gigs and her currency in check. The sponge queen appeared on a segment of ABC’s What Would You Do? last week and it was as emotional as you’d expect.

X Change was in the van with host John Quiñones while the actors put on a scene that showed parents being disappointed in their son for coming to lunch in drag and going by Jackie. The reactions from guests were varied, with the vast majority being positive. The scene had endings that included both the parents furiously leaving or the son running in tears to the bathroom, giving the people nearby a chance to react.

To be honest, I did not have high expectations for straight people, or older white people, but I was pleasantly surprised.

The first table to react was an older white woman who told the parents that there are way worse things in life than having to handle their son being a drag queen. The actor parents asked if she would go to the show and she said “absolutely.”

“That’s right honey, she said I’m gonna go to that show anyway,” Monét X Change said as she watched the scene unfold.

“I wish I had a body like that,” the woman in the booth added.

Later in the segment, there was a young straight couple who comforted her. The man called to Jackie after her parents left and told her that she looked beautiful. When Jackie came to the table, she found the woman also crying.

“I’m so sorry honey,” the woman cried to Jackie while they embraced.

The last interaction of the segment showed a woman who couldn’t keep her eyes off of the situation. With Jackie and her actor parents at the table, the actor mom looked at the on-looking woman and asked, “Wouldn’t you be embarrassed?”

The woman, without skipping a beat, flatly responded, “no.”

“I would be glad that this is my son and that he’s here,” she continued. “I just came from the cemetery and my son is there.”

There are more sweet moments in the segment and even the ones I described are better when viewed in proper context.
