Nancy Mace is going for jerk of the universe with her latest move

U.S. Rep. Nancy Mace, R-S.C., speaks during the Iowa Faith and Freedom Coalition 25th Annual Spring Kickoff at Horizon Events Center on Saturday, April 12, 2025, in Clive.

Nancy Mace clearly wants her legacy to be defined by the t-slur. But now it’s not a group of protestors or people in a distant country she’s slurring—it’s a 20 year old college student.

On Monday, Mace spoke at an event put on by the right wing extremist organization Turning Point USA at the University of South Carolina. Mace has been representing the 1st congressional district in South Carolina in the House of Representatives since 2021.

As students questioned the congresswoman about a range of current issues—including immigration and student debt—20-year-old USC student Harley Hicks asked for an apology. The moment was captured on video, which Mace later posted to her socials.

In the video, Hicks asks Mace to apologize for her use of the word ‘t*nny,’ a slur the congresswoman has repeatedly made headlines for throwing around.

In December, she referred to protestors outside the capital collectively by the slur. The protestors had assembled to demonstrate against her bathroom ban targeting Sarah McBride, the first out trans Congressmember.

In February, Mace falsely and vaguely claimed that USAID was “paying for tr*nnies in Guatemala” during a hearing. When she was reprimanded for using the slur on the House floor, she chanted, “Tr*nny, tr*nny, tr*nny! I don’t really care!”

These instances involved people not in the room. Hicks wanted Mace to apologize to her face. “I would like for you to apologize,” she said, “because it is derogatory, and second of all—”

“Is tr*nny really derogatory?” Mace cut her off.

“Well, yeah,” Hicks said. “Of course it f*cking is.”

“Tr*nny. Yeah, tr*nny, tr*nny, tr*nny,” Mace chanted.

Before Hicks walked away, she carried off a potted plant and something else from the stage the camera didn’t catch. When posting the video, Mace claimed that Hicks had planned to attack her with the plant.

But Hicks had only come for an apology. Attacking Mace, she says, was the furthest thing from her mind. “I’m like a shark, more afraid of her than she is of me,” Hicks told the South Carolina Gazette, adding that attending the event at all was the bravest thing she’d ever done.

“If I were attacking her, you’d have seen a very different video,” Hicks said.

Because that’s just the kind of politician she is, this is only the second instance this week of Mace verbally assaulting one of her constituents. On Monday, a local gay man approached her at an Ulta store to ask whether she would be holding any town halls soon. Mace responded by cussing him out for no apparent reason.
