Nava Mau continues to make history and award nomination lists left and right. The Baby Reindeer star has officially become the first trans actress to be nominated for the BAFTA TV Awards.

On Thursday, the British Academy of Film and Television Arts announced the official nominee list for the 2025 BAFTA TV Awards. Hit Netflix thriller Baby Reindeer leads this year’s list with eight nominations. Mau herself has been nominated for Best Supporting actress (alongside her queer co-star Jessica Gunning).

Mau’s nomination makes her the first trans actress to be nominated in any category for the BAFTA TV Awards. Weeks earlier, Emilia Pérez star Karla Sofía Gascón became the first trans actress nominated in the awards for film.

This isn’t the first time Mau has received honors from BAFTA. Last fall, she was named as an up-and-coming star to watch in the 2024 BAFTA Breakthrough list for the US. Each year, the list recognizes “newcomers from across film, games and television [who] were selected by their industry peers.”

But given the sheer amount of awards attention Mau is receiving, it’s safe to say that she’s much more than a newcomer—she’s an acclaimed actress. Last year, Mau also made history at the Emmys for her nomination in the Best Supporting Actress in the Limited Series/TV Movie category—one of Baby Reindeer’s 11 nominations.

While Mau has said that she looks forward to being seen as more than just a trans actress, she has also acknowledged the importance of shining a light on both the trans and Latina communities.

“Unfortunately, the opportunities afforded to trans people and Latinas and all under-represented people have been extremely limited,” Mau said at the time of her Emmy nomination.

“That has gotten in the way of us being able to grow in our craft and explore all we can be. So, it has been an honor from the very beginning, when I first read the script, to even consider that I could be a part of a story like this.

“I’m hopeful that I by no means will be the only [one] moving forward. I’m just honored to get to celebrate this year.”

Before Baby Reindeer, Mau had her first big break in the queer Max series Generation. Her next major role will be in the fifth and final season of the Netflix thriller You, where she will guest star as a detective on the trail of the show’s duplicitous serial killer played by Penn Badgley.
