Pearl Teams Up with Kidrobot for High Fashion Drag Doll

· Updated on May 29, 2018

As gay men, many of us have memories of sneaking some play time with our low-key favorite dolls. For RuPaul’s Drag Race alum and doll sculptor, Pearl, she had the good fortune of open-minded parents.

“Luckily for me, I have a very supportive mother who has always encouraged me to be authentically me and allowed me to play with the kinds of toys that I wanted to play with,” she says. “I loved dolls and all kinds of arts and crafts-related things growing up.”

Pearl recently teamed up with doll maker, Gina Garan and Kidrobot for a new kind of doll. Vladonna is a blank canvas, a customizable DIY fashion doll. She’s a gender fluid fashion icon, a Barbie for the RuPaul’s Drag Race generation.

“What I love about Vladonna is that you can make her up into a 12-inch version of whatever your imagination can think of,” Pearl says. “I would have killed for a doll like this when I was growing up. Barbie was fun, but Vladonna is fierce.”

Fans of Pearl and Drag Race might remember her childhood sketches of a high fashion diva that ultimately became her drag persona. That creativity was translated into Vladonna, a product of artistic minds imagining a satirical aesthetic of female beauty, seen through the eyes of a woman and a drag queen.

“I think creativity begins early with most artists,” she says. “I chose to focus on my art all throughout my life and because of that, I have expanded my interest in all kinds of mediums. I love being able to dabble in all kinds of artistry and now in the toy worldDesigning a fashion doll was always a fantasy of mine. I had been sculpting for a few years, so it was a lot of fun to see her translated into a real-life articulated doll.”

Vladonna is now available for creative kids and drag enthusiasts alike. Order now at Kidrobot.
