· Updated on May 28, 2018

As the federal government’s response to Hurricane Maria continues to lag, Princess Nokia joins a growing number of musicians who are stepping up to help the people of Puerto Rico most impacted by the storm.

The rapper, whose excellent 1992 Deluxe mixtape dropped earlier this month, has created a GoFundMe that she hopes will raise at least $100,000 to aid in recovery efforts in the U.S. territory, Out reports.

“My name is princess Nokia. I am a New York born Puerto Rican,” she writes on the GoFundMe page. “The current state of Puerto Rico is considered to be at apocalyptic loss.”

“The president of the United States, has done a terrible job providing coverage, sympathy, and relief aid to Puerto Rico in its time of crisis, and the federal government has been slow and discreet in bringing national awareness and proper assistance to its people,” she continues, later mentioning the millions without power or means of contacting family and friends in the continental U.S.

“I am creating this go fund me, to directly provide imminent care and support to the people of Puerto Rico as a gesture of solidarity and alliance with my mother country,” she says. “This go fund me will serve as a personal 100% nonprofit organization that will serve to assist the island and people of Puerto Rico in its dire time of need.”

In less than 24 hours, Princess Nokia has managed to raise nearly $2,000. If you want to help her reach her goal of $100,000which she says will all go towards shipping clean water, fuel, medical supplies, non-perishable foods, and more to people who need itdonate here.
