If you’re not familiar with the stylings of Tess Sinatro on TikTok—girl get it together! She’s one of the finest sapphic influencers we have, and every dish she makes (usually for her girlfriend Carly) looks like the stuff of high-calorie dreams. From her take on the classic McGriddle to her elite thousand-layer potato, she’s always serving up something good.
RelatedIt’s her year
But recently, on her alt account, she was offering up something spicier than the usual fare: Renee Rapp drama.
Culture, unfiltered
Our newsletter will bring you the pulse of queer culture, from the tastemakers to the groundbreakers.
“Two, two and a half years ago,” Tess begins her tale, “Renee Rapp and I exchanged a handful of DMs.” Tess was already dating Carly, her fiancé. But as Tess explains, “it’s f*cking Renee Rapp,” so she kept DMing a bit before explaining that she had a girlfriend, after which Renee ghosted.
Sounds pretty standard. But there’s more.
“For some reason, I thought it would be appropriate to DM her,” Tess explains, “because I was like, maybe we could be friends! That’s not the craziest thing in the world.”
It’s definitely not crazy, and in the future I feel like follower gap relationships will be studied. What are the rules anyway? If you’re famous on TikTok, does that make you eligible for friendship with people who gained their stardom by moving through more traditional channels? Don’t know! But it’s definitely not crazy to think that they could have kept up a friendly correspondence.
However, word got out about the DMs, leading to some slander around Tess and Carly’s relationship. So Tess is here to set the record straight.
“I DMed her maybe three or four more times, I wished her a happy birthday, it didn’t seem that crazy to me.” But since that time, Rapp has unfollowed Tess, leading Tess to feel embarrassed about the encounter.
“Renee, if you’re watching, I just really thought we could be friends, man.”
Renee, the ball is in your court. This could be the beginning of a delicious friendship.
