Ryan Murphy seems to be on a roll right now. With fans patiently awaiting another season of American Horror Story and Feud, they’re currently hanging on every episode of the high fashion, nostalgia driven true crime drama that is The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story, as well as the unexpected cop drama, 9-1-1. But perhaps it’s the good old musical days of Glee his fans are missing.

Have no fear, Murphy’s next project with Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan is a musical comedy with Pitch Perfect and Dear Evan Hansen star, Ben Platt. The Politician is a one-hour comedy with social commentary, and it’s expected feature musical numbers in each episode. Although there are few plot details, Deadline says it revolves around the political aspirations of a rich Santa Barbarian named Payton (Platt), with each season revolving around a different political race.

Also in talks to star are Barbra Streisand and Gwyneth Paltrow. If their deals close, they will also serve as producers on the series. Streisand will also likely direct a few episodes, according to Deadline’s source.
With recent Tony-winner Platt starring and the potential of Paltrow and Streisand to co-star, the project has ignited interest from multiple streaming services, including Hulu and Amazon. But after much negotiation, the series has landed at Netflix, with rumors of a two-season, straight-to-series order.
