Sasha Velour Reprises Drag Race Finale-Winning “So Emotional” — With a New Twist

Sasha Velour has us “So Emotional” all over again.

On Sept. 10, the reigning champion of RuPaul’s Drag Race reprised her showstopping Whitney Houston lip sync from the season nine finale at her popular Nightgowns show in New York City. Video of the performance surfaced online Monday, and suffice it to say, the reveal artist has topped herself.

The performance recalls the best beats from her original interpretation, in which she routed best friend Shea Coulee with a combination of rose petals and dynamic lip syncing. Like the first time, she rips off her gloves to reveal bursts of petals, but this time adds a dress reveal. She rips off a heavy-looking red dress to unleash a lighter garment below one covered in, you guessed it, roses.

The finale is what sells it, though: Not only does Sasha lift her wig, releasing a cascade of petals sitting underneath, she also gets drenched in a shower of roses from above. The impact is bigger than before, and inspires an even more excited rounds of screams from the audience. Even when she’s doing what we’ve seen before, Sasha still manages to surprise.
