Before the new regime takes office in January, trans folks are scrambling to find ways to protect ourselves from local laws that make our very existence illegal. The top offenders in this area remain the state of Florida, led by Ron DeSantis, and Texas, which is already up to some shady sh*t if this intel is anything to go on.

Just absolutely evil treatment
According to a recent Reddit post, Texas is about to make things even scarier for trans folks trying to update their licenses to reflect their correct gender. “DO NOT TRY AND CHANGE YOUR GENDER MARKER IN TEXAS!” the poster wrote, stating that their mother attended a continuing legal education seminar in the state where she received scary news. According to the original poster, not only will an application for a gender marker license change be denied, it could place the applicant on some kind of registry.
In response to the poster saying that names of applicants are being sent to an email for “unknown reason,” one poster chimed in, saying that it’s pretty clear what’s going on. “[Attorney General] Ken Paxton wants a list of everyone who applies and will happily ignore any court that tried to get in his way.”

It certainly seems like something Paxton would do. In addition to trying to crack down on ab*rtion even in the form of mail-in pills, the Texas AG has a history of going after healthcare professionals for providing gender-affirming care to trans teens and adults in the state, as well as “seeking data” on trans citizens.
Bottom line: it’s been scary to be trans in Texas for years now, but it’s getting scarier.
