Contrary to what many Republicans would have the public believe, LGBTQ+ voters still don’t like Trump. According to an NBC exit poll, 86% of LGBTQ+ voters backed Kamala Harris, while only 12% backed Donald Trump.
This is substantially higher than that which was seen in 2020, where 27% of LGBTQ+ voters went for Trump.
This stands in stark contrast to claims by Vice President-elect JD Vance that they would receive the “normal gay guy vote,” a claim he made in tandem by referring to hypothetical gay people who “just want to be left the hell alone.”

LGBTQ+ voters also made up the greatest share of voters that they ever have, at a whopping 8% of the total voting base.
Only 8% of queer women supported Trump, while LGBTQ+ voters of color supported Harris at 91%, compared to 5% for Trump.
Many LGBTQ+ Americans are terrified of what is to come under a Trump presidency, as many of the policies he plans to enact will severely restrict LGBTQ+ rights.
GLAAD President and CEO Sarah Kate Ellis told The Advocate that “we must see this crisis as another catalyst for change.”
