The sapphics are fondly recalling that face-sitting scene in Ammonite

In the late 2010s, we found ourselves having something of a sapphic prestige film renaissance. There was the future Christmas classic Carol in 2015, the 2017 orthodox drama Disobedience, 2019’s slow-burning Portrait of a Lady on Fire (also known as Portrait of a Good Luck Babe on Fire) and 2018’s heartbreaking Rafiki.

And then came Ammonite in 2020, a movie that makes you sit through 5 hours of very slow walks along the beach just to get to that one face-sitting scene.

As you can imagine, the face-sitting is what most people remember. In a movie where literally nothing happens, it’s pretty damn memorable!

It’s no surprise that the film still ranks high for folks who can’t get that one bodice-ripping moment out of their minds.

After the stalwart sapphic Instagram account lesbian_herstory posted stills from the film’s sex scene, sapphics didn’t waste time fondly recalling just how good this payoff truly was.

“Someone wanna recreate? 🤷🏾” one user wrote. “Such a slooooooow movie,” another commenter stated, “but worth it for this scene! 😅”

Indeed.

“I feel like my top 3 is Disobedience, any scene from The L Word, then this one,” someone else explained. I mean, yeah, those are all pretty damn good.

We also can’t forget what this movie did for sausage curls.

For the cottagecore lesbians, for the science lesbians, for the she sells seashells by the seashore lesbians, this movie was and remains everything. Ammonite, you were way too long getting to that one scene, but once you got there, you stole our hearts forever.
